Welcome to our Organization
Genvoz: Who We Are and Our Missions
Genvoz is an electronic organization that is run by 85 Middle School Life Scientists and 2 Professional Development Specialists who relentlessly work to fulfill the following missions:
Empower teenagers of color living with genetic disorders to share their voices behind their daily lives and how research continues to impact them.
|
Provide voice to experts in the field, including scientists, medical doctors, legal professionals, and politicians on why funding matters.
|
Educate the community on 20 genetic disorders, including comprehensive summaries, treatments, epidemiological statistics, current research projects, and miscellaneous facts.
|
Allow members in the community to donate directly the the NIH’s rare genetic disorders research programs.

Genvoz: Our Business Model
Our organization is currently comprised of 20 Task Forces (totally 40 Task Forces since the Organization's existence), each comprised of one Task Force Director, who work together towards meeting our four missions.
Within our organization, the leadership team consists of eight Executive Directors, led by two Seniors Executive Directors, who manage website content and provide support between Task Forces.
Eight additional Web Design Directors manage the graphics and artistic appeal of Genvoz's website.
Each Middle School Life Scientist undergoes weekly Professional Development provided by our Literacy Specialist, Gunn, and our Content Specialist, Justin Lopez. Both Specialists support all teams in coordinating Genvoz's website.

Why now? Watch this video that highlights the Trump Administration's initial proposal to cut funding to the National Institutes of Health (NIH):
In May 2017, the Trump Administration proposed to cut funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) by 22%. This budget cut would create a significant disadvantage for research projects devoted to treating people with rare genetic disorders. Furthermore, a large portion of raising awareness has been devoted to infants and the elderly--resources to provide a platform for teenagers of color who live with rare genetic disorders are difficult to find. Therefore, the time to create and use Genvoz to support our community is more necessary than ever.
